Car history:
1) Nice running driving 1968 Corvette Convertible project/driver. This car is well-equipped with the optional and RARE 427/390HP engine, four speed transmission, posi traction, disc brakes, P01 wheel covers, am/fm radio (with correct knobs), tinted glass and originally, (but not included), a removable hardtop, although I have one I can negotiate in to a sale which is pictured. While this car is currently silver, it was originally delivered in British Green.
The original gas tank was dropped out of the car to verify whether the tank sticker was there, and to document what we believed: that it was a real-deal 427 Corvette Convertible! Careful removal of the tank allowed discovery of the original tank sticker, documenting the options including most importantly the engine option. While it's not the nicest/cleanest tank sticker I have ever come across, it is there/included. Unlike 1000's of supposed real Big Block Corvettes with ZERO paperwork, this car is clearly the REAL DEAL. The 427/390HP, four speed transmission, removable hardtop, and many other options are visible on the tank sticker.
The body, frame, and other the areas of concern on most Corvettes of this era are actually quite good on this car. The car gaps fine for a 50 year old Vette, and fits pretty darn well actually. The frame is devoid of ANY rust issues, and is astonishingly solid. The frame rail end caps, kick ups, birdcage, windshield frame, etc are all excellent, no issues! No evidence of serious accidents, poor patch work, etc. The bonding strips are in all four corners of the car, indicating that the car is a no-hit, original panel Corvette. The doors, hood, headlights, etc all align, fit well. The front header panel is extremely nice, without any of the normal pop rivet/corrosion often found on the steel bumper era Vettes.
The car has 20-30 year old paint and it will likely need a repaint eventually. It's decent enough if you wanted to put a polishing wheel to it, and touch it up a bit, respray the hood (paint peeling a bit in the middle of the hood), the car could be a fun car to drive and enjoy as it is!
The brightwork/chrome/trim is in good condition given the fact that it all appears to be original stuff. The front and rear bumpers appear to be originals as are the gas door, door handles, emblems, etc. The car has stamped steel wheels with original P01 wheel covers. Tires are older, but hold air fine.
The interior appears to be original componentry. The interior is in decent condition given this fact. The seat covers are actually quite nice for original material, and something that would likely be cleaned and reused. Dash, pad, trim. etc is all very nice as well. Door panels are decent at best, LH one being the worst. The convertible top is black and needing replacement. Frame is in great shape. I have a black vinyl covered hardtop that I would include for $1200 additional, but it is NOT included at the Buy It Now price!
The engine compartment is good original with the majority of original componentry in place. The engine runs well. The actual mileage is unknown. The engine is a non-matching number replacement, and it appears to be a 1969 396 high performance block according the rear casting numbers and (KB) stamping on the front pad.
If you are looking for a complete, running/driving, tank sticker DOCUMENTED Big Block Corvette Convertible, here's an excellent opportunity for a collectible car that you can drive and enjoy as is, and do eventual further restoration on. The verbiage/information above, and the pictures are EXTREMELY representative of this car.
